Boyko Borisov, born on June 13, 1959, in Bankya, is a former mayor of the Bulgarian capital. His father, Metodi Borisov, worked in the Sofia City Administration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs until 1987. In 1982, Boyko Borisov graduated from the Higher Special School of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, receiving a diploma as an engineer in "Fire Protection and Safety" and the rank of lieutenant.
After graduation, Borisov started working in the Sofia City Administration, initially as a platoon commander and later as a company commander. From 1985 to 1990, he served as a lecturer at the Higher Institute for Officer Training and Scientific Research of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During this time, Borisov defended a dissertation on the topic of "Psycho-Physical Training of Operational Staff."
In 1990, Borisov left the Ministry of Internal Affairs and founded the company "Ipon-1" in 1991. Today, it is one of the largest security firms in the country. In 2001, Borisov was appointed the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, with the rank of colonel. In 2004, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.
Throughout his career, Borisov has been involved in organizing joint operations to combat crimes related to drug trafficking and illegal immigration. He has a daughter from his first marriage.
In 2005, as an independent candidate, Boyko Borisov won the mayoral elections in Sofia with 68.5% of the votes, becoming the mayor of the Bulgarian capital.
